It's a beautiful '81 931, sat in a barn in nearby Ypsilanti for going on 10 years before put up on eBay, where we nabbed it, brought it home, and eventually resurrected it with a new fuel system and plenty of electrical bits. It'll be getting some ongoing running restoration once we title and plate it.
Status:
The car is an '82 924 Turbo, also known as a 931. The car was retrieved from Atlanta, where it was being prepped for track use, returned to running condition, and made streetable.
It is now undergoing a running restoration. It has been cosmetically much improved by wet-sanding and rubbing out, but still has some remaining bodywork in need of attention. It needed only a battery, fuel pumps, and a fuel pump relay to get it running, followed by basics like new brakes and rubber to make it safe for street use. Further mechanical restoration also is taking place over time. The chassis has now been almost completely rebuilt, and the car drives like new, thanks to new balljoints, suspension bushings, strut mounts, and shocks/struts. Much attention will need to be given to all rubber seals and such, as they've deteriorated a lot in the southern sun.
Likewise, though it was easy to get running, the engine has required a lot of attention to be counted as reliable. The turbo was leaking a lot of oil at first, as it was loose in its mountings. After fixing this, all the rubber on the engine had to be replaced: belts, hoses, intake boots and seals, etc. There's still a bit of oil leakage to be corrected, but it's mostly working properly. The turbo itself will also need some attention before too long, since it blows out past the seals on hard left-hand turns.
Stereo:
Some have enquired about my stereo setup. I have a pair of 6.5" JBL GTO650's in the doors (tight fit, but do-able), and that's it other than the 10" Polk sub in a custom box in the spare tire well, driven by a bridged 2-channel JBL amp in the right rear side pocket. As you can see in the first picture, it's sized and fitted to be invisible with the rear carpet in place. There's also a small pair of Altec Lansing components in the rear carpet cover that are plugged in, help out with the fill...
